What Can I Do In My New Faction? ◎

What Can I Do In My New Faction?
The short answer is anything (within reason) that you'd like! More detailed faction information can be found here, and here's a general overview of possibilities.

NPCs: Each faction is full of people! Each faction has a handful of named mod NPCs who will all be listed, but they make up only a fraction of people in any given place. Feel free to create your own Average Citizen NPCs. The cultural overviews of each faction should give you a pretty good feel for what sorts of people you're likely to find in each faction.

Politics: With the opening of these new areas, you'll be meeting other major players from the political world of Abraxas. Here's a chance to learn more about the political stance of your chosen faction, or what plans they may have building, who the important people are, general sentiments about other factions, and more. Maybe you'd even like to lend a hand to the local leaders...or the opposite.

Lore: There's a whole bunch of lore and world history waiting to be uncovered! While this is easier done in some places than others - Cadens, for example, has all those museums to poke at - there is so much to be learned no matter where you are. Who knows what might be discovered with a little digging?

General Questions
How does money work?

Abraxas currently has a universal coin system, originating in Thorne. There are three major coins in use: Gold, silver, and copper. A gold coin is worth the equivalent of 100$ USD and bears the face of a long dead king which has led to them commonly being referred to as king's pieces. Similarly the silver coin (equivalent to 25$ USD) is inscribed with the face of an ancient queen and are often called queenies. Coppers (equivalent to 1$ USD) bear an unflattering portrait of what was likely a famous Duke, judging by how they're often called duke bits. They break down as expected with 4 silvers equalling a single gold coin and 25 coppers equalling a silver coin.

How will my character get money?

However they'd be inclined! There are jobs to be had in every faction, from working in a shop or tavern to manual labor to doing random day jobs for citizens who can afford it. If a character has a particular talent there's likely a way to turn that into cash. And of course there's the time honored tradition of theft - though consequences will be had if caught.

Where will my character be able to stay?

There are cheap inns and public houses to be found everywhere, though in places like Cadens and Nott, they'll be in the seedier parts of town. There's also appealing to sympathetic citizens for a room in exchange for work, finding an abandoned dwelling and squatting, and of course more comfortable options for characters who've managed to get their hands on enough money.

How will my character be treated as an outsider?

That greatly depends! There's no unified sentiment, outside of the Thornean capitol. The Free Cities don't seem to care as long as no one's making trouble, Solvunn expects any newcomers to abide by their traditions and way of life, and Nott has enough beggars and displaced people that it's easy to go unnoticed. But the people of these places are people, and will have varying personal reactions from curiosity to not caring to varying degrees of prejudice. Causing trouble or drawing a great deal of attention to oneself will be noticed, but so will lending a hand to the local community...

How much influence can my character have within a faction?

At the moment, not that much. Characters are strangers, outsiders, there’s no reason for anyone in a position of power to trust them. Characters who remain in Thorne and are friendly with them have a bit more opportunity to exert influence, in the sense they have a good chance of at least being heard out. But the more your character gets involved, the more this will change down the road.

Why is it so difficult to move between factions right now?

Tensions and mistrust are running high between Thorne, Solvunn, and the Free Cities. Any caravans that may be making trips between aren’t taking passengers, and there are no wagons for hire willing to transport anyone between kingdoms. Utilizing magic to transport between will raise suspicion if noticed. Of course if your character is willing to make the journey themselves the old fashioned way, they are welcome to!
