northerndragon: (dragonstone - homecoming)
Aegon "Jon Snow" Targaryen ([personal profile] northerndragon) wrote in [personal profile] abraxasmods 2024-07-05 07:46 am (UTC)

Character Name: Jon Snow
Faction: Thorne
Requested Rank: minimum 3, maybe 4 if you think it's plausible. 3 is definitely good though.

Reasons for Request: For right now, I am mainly looking for Sword Guy to be allowed to carry his sword everywhere in Thorne (I wrote almost all of this up before he got Sword Power, obvs) and also to take the higher level quests. Eventually, getting him to slightly higher influence levels where he can have potential NPC opportunities, possibly diplomatic ones (his priorities would make him a decent fit for those) -- he is the kind of character who is of slightly more use to people around him when he's a little more important than not. But he'll never actually seek to be seen as important, only useful.

Some of these threads are quite old. I wanted to be sure I was submitting something substantial and well-documented. On the IC end, I'd probably cover my OOC inaction by assuming this stuff actually went up over time in the background and he's only just taking advantage of any of it now. It's also likely that not all of these are significant enough to weigh in at all, or that some of the threads are too stubby to count, but that is for you to decide.

I also realize that the regime change may somewhat affect some of this! Only you can decide what Sidwell will think. However, based on the post-Overthrow write up, I feel comfortable at least positing that Sidwell might see Jon as a Summoned who can be relied upon to support and protect the kingdom: many of these threads depict him doing just that.

If you would like to save some time checking the quest threads, he has done every Tier One quest available since May of 2022, and only the May 2022 quest was submitted last time. Sometimes there's other relevant info in those threads, but I've usually noted when that's the case.

  • Has been around for more than two years being polite and helpful and not publicly questioning royal decisions. Would be familiar in various locations around the castle (stables, training yard, hunting and riding in the castle forest, etc). Should be known by at least some people to be employed by some lower ranking nobles as a weapons master for their kids: this means that unless a game event makes it impossible, he's seen on Adamant Row at least three days a week, and more frequently than that after he's missed days due to an event. (He does actual work, but it might be rumored that the main purpose of his employment is that he's decorative.) I've thrown brief mentions of that stuff into a ton of threads, but an easy reference is the first tag here (the Cassian training log in the list below). Probably at least recognizable as someone who doesn't cause trouble, seems relatively trustworthy, tries to learn magic, etc. -- his Lv 1 stuff. Also would be known around town as someone who hangs out with Mat (evident in things linked here).

  • September 2022 quest: put out fires with Mat and Hennessey.

  • Submitted helpful info at the December political conference (told them not to trust Solvunn, which turned out to be a major contribution - this is not a thread, but he did have to submit threads to receive the info that he submitted here); also caught a sacred goose (no thread here; I didn't expect him to win anything!) and publicly overdid it in the slug game (Long Embrace and Ship's Lounge starters, Ship's Lounge thread) in a way (brave/masochistic/dumb) that might have caught the attention of anyone passing through that bar.

  • January 2023 quest! Helped with the beached turtle in Borrel.

  • Participated in investigation, search, and rescue in the cultist event.
    • Investigation 1, Investigation 2.
    • Circulated the info about the sigil goop.
    • Search participation mentioned in the Alicent and Shepard threads at that link.
    • Participated in the endgame search and capture for Josselyn (which afaik wasn't threaded out by players).
    • Many months later, when delivering royal condolences in Nott, his participation in the mountain searches was mentioned here.
    • Side note! As you know, I had tremendous trouble with this event. So much went wrong -- my planned partner was a new player who got intimidated by the format and completely bailed, I was also intimidated and pretty lost, a relative died at the beginning of the event and a friend died suddenly at the end, and I was pretty distraught at the time for all those reasons and dropped several search threads I couldn't handle doing. Because he has threads referencing active searching but not depicting it, and it was a pretty important part of the event, it is possible that his mountain searching efforts may not factor into influence. It would be disappointing but totally understandable -- but I hope you can credit it at least partially!

  • May 2023 quest: helped with the farm field blessings around Nott (with note that he also participated in the royal demo in Nott, mentioned in that thread -- his Castle Thorne influence should be up from that, but he was probably getting some dirty looks in Nott).

  • Rifts event: My gut feeling is that this event probably constitutes a pretty solid basis for a bump in itself, because he went all over Thorne conspicuously fighting creatures in a way that is similar to stuff in canon that gained him a lot of canonical influence. Real-world fights included

  • Fall 2023: hospital entertainment quest with Mat. Willing to make a fool of himself to brighten the day of some injured kids. (This might also have helped his Nott influence.)

  • Nether event: contributed how he could to helping the Draconae with their dragons. Helped gather ingredients with Kyle and Eddie; played with the baby dragons with Lord John Grey.

  • December 2023: a log delivery thread to help Nott, on the TDM, with a character who didn't app at that time. I figured that Jon still might plausibly have done it alone, and mentioned it in the first tag of a game-canon thread, but it's fine if there's no credit for this one.

  • Late December 2023: went to the island to help retrieve dead bodies.

  • January 2024: might have been seen in the training yard with Cassian or in the stables with River, trying to teach each of them.

  • January 2024: Quest to deliver royal condolences with Sansa and Mat. We threaded out at least part of one house visit, but have noted in the setup that they have several more to go to.

  • February 2024: actively participated in the Carnivale event and investigation; dressed appropriately, spoke to several NPCs, stole a butcher's ledger without getting caught (this might not actually be influence since they weren't seen doing it, but they did later present it at the vault), and uncovered important information.

  • Spring 2024: Helped out in Nott (specifically in reply to Rhy's request). First thread link mentions in the opening tag that he's been there a lot in recent weeks (& is ongoing, but well into political chatter).

  • Spring 2024: Has been purchasing a lot of fabric for Sansa: here he is coming in to the castle carrying a parcel of cloth (also, making a fool of himself on one of Kyle's bikes; the only reason he'll ever live this down is that a lot of the witnesses died in the coup I guess....)

  • March 2024: Helped calm horses during the storms (I'm unsure of whether this counts because the other character wasn't accepted; I believe I mentioned it elsewhere in the logs comm as something Jon had been up to, but can't find it right now because horses are mentioned a lot in this game, so searching my inbox is useless, useless! Again, fine if this is not credited.)

  • May 2024: had to sell or give away all the clothes/shoes he had purchased or had made for himself over his time in Thorne (not ones given to him by the Crown -- those, he would have just returned to the general supply area) and hastily purchase/commission a few replacements, due to a change in physical size after the April event. He would have gotten a few of his basic replacements from those provided by the castle, but he would also have commissioned some in a slightly different style from a tailor and also asked Sansa to help him out. While I haven't really been explicit about it in any thread, the factors here are his preference for Northern Westerosi styles that he tries to commission and would have had to describe, contribution to the local economy, blah blah blah -- otherwise, all of his clothes would come from the castle and he wouldn't have reason to buy or sell/donate anything. He probably had a few nice wool overtunics on those lines for cooler seasons and is probably working on a few more, maybe a piece in leather, that kind of thing. Also probably owns mostly Westerosi-style linen shirts.

  • Attended Sidwell's coronation. (I will submit other things from the Overthrow event next time; they're not far enough along right now. Obviously this isn't a thread and doesn't count for much other than how much Jon is currently trusted around the castle.)
